The Counts of Liège were present only a short time, from the time of Reginar until the formation of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège in 980. The known counts are:

  • Reginar (870-898), also Count of Mons, Hainaut and Hesbaye
  • Sigard (898-920), also Count of Hainaut
  • Giselbert (through at least 922), son of Reginar, also Duke of Lorraine
  • Emmo (through 958), also Count of Hesbaye
  • Richar (through 973), also Count of Mons
  • Godizo (through 980-985), also Count of Betuwe, son of the previous.

In 985, Notger of Liège, then bishop, received secular control of the County of Huy from Emperor Otto II, and became the first prince-bishop of Liege.
