It is a Grade I listed building. HistoryThe original barn was constructed as the gatehouse to Llanthony Priory.[1] It is of 12th century origins.[2] Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the mid-16th century, the building was converted to secular use as a barn.[1] Subsequently, it fell into ruin.[2] In the 19th century the Llanthony estate was purchased by the poet Walter Savage Landor and it is possible that he undertook some reconstruction.[1] The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales Coflein database records a second period of reconstruction in the 19th century but does not attribute this to Landor.[3] Architecture and descriptionThe barn is constructed of Old Red Sandstone rubble with a tiled roof.[1] The interior has "a much earlier look" than the exterior, and may comprise more of the original 12th century work.[2] The architectural historian John Newman describes the building as having been "extended and brutally adapted after the Dissolution.".{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=350}} One gable end (see photograph) has "a full-width arch..and above it a handsome group of three lancets."{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=350}} It also has two notable cusped windows, dating from the 14th century.[4] Notes1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|url=http://cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net/reports/listedbuilding/FullReport?lang=en&id=1941|title=Listed Buildings – Full Report – HeritageBill Cadw Assets – Reports|publisher=|accessdate=11 April 2017}} 2. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/300001941-barn-at-court-farm-with-the-attached-precinct-wall-crucorney#.WOyH1JI2x9A|title=Barn at Court Farm with the attached precinct wall, Crucorney, Monmouthshire|publisher=British Listed Buildings Online|accessdate=11 April 2017}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/401607/details/llanthony-priory-gatehouse|title=LLANTHONY PRIORY GATEHOUSE - Coflein|website=www.coflein.gov.uk|accessdate=6 December 2018}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.monasticwales.org/article/21|title=Remnants of Llanthony Prima|publisher=Monastic Wales - A Comprehensive Database of Sites and Sources|website=www.monasticwales.org|accessdate=6 December 2018}} References
