It was established in 2011 and is owned by the Kent-based winery group Chapel Down.[1][2][3] {{As of|2018|since=y}}, it has been headed by former Anheuser-Busch InBev manager Matthew Anderson.[3] HistoryThe brewery is located on a {{convert|1.6|acre|adj=on}} former brownfield site near Ashford International station.[5] Chapel Down had started producing lagers in 2010, importing beer and ales from the Leicester-based brewery Everards, but wanted to open a local production unit.[4] The brewery was given permission to develop from the town council in late 2016. The site was purchased for development in November 2017 following a £1.7 million investment, mostly from crowdfunding.[5] The company chose to invest in Ashford because of its prominent location on the High Speed 1 railway. The brewery own a bar inside St Pancras railway station, London, at the other end of the line.[6] The premises are planned to be fully open in April 2019 with a production capacity of {{Convert|2000000|litres|impgal|abbr=|spell=in}}, with an accompanying restaurant and visitors centre.[1][7][8] The people who donated to the crowdfunding scheme, which raised £1.16 million of the funds, receive a discount on products, with those contributing over £25,000 having their names engraved on one of the fermentation tanks.[4] A waterfall was constructed on one side of the premises.[9] Product rangeThe company produces a variety of beers and lagers, using winemaking methods. These include Curious Brew and Curious IPA.[3] As well as draught products, the group produces Curious Session IPA in cans, which was launched on Beer Can Appreciation Day, 2019.[10] At 4.4% alcohol by volume (ABV), it replaced the stronger Curious IPA at 5.6% ABV.[11] A special selection of "Curiouser and Curiouser" beers has been introduced. The name comes from the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland where Alice said that things were getting "curiouser and curiouser".[12] References1. ^1 {{cite news|url=https://www.kentonline.co.uk/ashford/news/town-centre-brewery-opening-date-set-194443/|title=Ashford: £1.3 million Curious Brewery sets Ashford town centre open date|work=Kent Online|date=30 November 2018|accessdate=2 February 2019}} {{coord|51|08|38|N|00|52|21|E|display=title}}2. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2018/10/18/Curious-Brewery-appoints-new-head-brewer|title=Curious Brewery appoints new head brewer|work=Morning Advertiser|date=18 October 2018|accessdate=2 February 2019}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.drinksretailingnews.co.uk/news/fullstory.php/aid/18151/Curious_Brewery_recruits_ex_AB-Inbev_beer_guru_as_head_brewer.html|title=Curious Brewery recruits ex AB-Inbev beer guru as head brewer|work=Drinks Retailing News|date=16 October 2018|accessdate=7 February 2019}} 4. ^1 {{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/apr/04/chapel-down-raises-17m-to-build-curious-drinks-brewery|title=Chapel Down raises £1.7m to build Curious Drinks brewery|newspaper=The Guardian|date=4 April 2016|accessdate=3 February 2019}} 5. ^1 {{cite news|url=https://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2017/11/chapel-down-completes-payment-for-1-6-acre-curious-brewery-site/|title=Chapel Down completes payment for 1.6 acre Curious Brewery site|work=The Drinks Business|date=1 November 2017|accessdate=2 February 2019}} 6. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/jan/19/hs2-all-stations-regeneration-work-begins-earnest-london-euston|title=All stations to regeneration?
