It carries a date stone of 1694, which probably refers to a period of reconstruction. The farmhouse is Grade II* listed and a number of the ancillary buildings on the farmstead have their own Grade II listings. History and descriptionThe architectural historian John Newman describes Cwm Bwchel as an "inaccessible farmstead".{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=211}} The farm is sited on a hill overlooking Llanthony Priory. Cadw gives a construction date of the late medieval period. Newman notes the date stone on the doorcase with the owner's initials and a date of 1694.{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=211}} Cadw attributes this to a 17th-century reconstruction. The house was refaced in the 18th and 19th centuries.[1] It remains a private home and the 20th century saw further remodelling of the ancillary buildings.[2] Cwn Bwchel is constructed of Old Red Sandstone rubble under a roof of Welsh slate.[1] The farmhouse is Grade II* listed,[1] with the barn,[3] former kitchen[4] and stables having their own Grade II listings.[5] Notes1. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net/reports/listedbuilding/FullReport?lang=en&id=16277|title=Listed Buildings – Full Report – HeritageBill Cadw Assets – Reports|website=cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://morganhorowskyj.co.uk/portfolio_category/listed-buildings/|title=Listed Buildings Archives – Morgan & Horowskyj|website=Morgan & Horowskyj}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net/reports/listedbuilding/FullReport?lang=en&id=16278|title=Listed Buildings – Full Report – HeritageBill Cadw Assets – Reports|website=cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net/reports/listedbuilding/FullReport?lang=en&id=16279|title=Listed Buildings – Full Report – HeritageBill Cadw Assets – Reports|website=cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net/reports/listedbuilding/FullReport?lang=en&id=16280|title=Listed Buildings – Full Report – HeritageBill Cadw Assets – Reports|website=cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net}} References
