The genus is known from Baltic amber from the Eocene of Poland and Russia. It contains only one species, Cyrtinella flavinigra.[1] The generic name is from the extant genus Cyrtus, referring to the possible close relationship of Cyrtinella with the genus. The specific name is a combination of the Latin words flava (yellow) and nigra (black), referring to the black and yellow coloration of the body.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite journal|first1=Jessica P.|last1=Gillung|first2=Shaun L.|last2=Winterton|year=2017|title=A review of fossil spider flies (Diptera: Acroceridae) with descriptions of new genera and species from Baltic Amber|journal=Journal of Systematic Palaeontology|volume=16|issue=4|pages=325–350|doi=10.1080/14772019.2017.1289566}} {{Nemestrinoidea-stub}} 4 : Acroceridae|Prehistoric Diptera genera|Monotypic Brachycera genera|Nemestrinoidea genera |
