He is known for portraiture. Early lifeConnell was born in South Australia. He has a Bachelor of Spanish and Latin American studies and a Diploma of Education from Flinders University and a Master of Visual Art from the University of South Australia.[1] He lived in India for two years[2] and travels and exhibits there.[3][4][5][6] He participated in the Kochi-Muziris Biennale[7] and one of his works was vandalised during the first Biennale.[8] Connell exhibited his portraits of Sikhs in London.[9] Connell lectures at Adelaide Central School of Art.[10] Artistic style and subjectConnell is known for his large-scale, drawn portraits of migrants, particularly of the Indian community in South Australia.[11][12] He created portraits of fishermen[13] and cancer patients in India.[14] Awards and prizes
