In 2016, she was named Irish Chef of the Year. CareerBarry began working in a professional kitchen at the age of 14,[1] as a kitchen porter. She began to work as a chef after attending a catering college in Newry, Northern Ireland.[2] She was mentored by chef Michael Deane, and started to work his restaurant Deanes in 2003. Barry travelled around the world to gain experience as a chef,[3] including at Simon Rogan's L'Enclume restaurant.[2] She moved on to work as sous chef under Raymond McCardle at Restaurant 23, before becoming head chef for Rogan at his Cartmel based restaurant Cartmel & Co in 2012.[5] In 2014, she left to return to Northern Ireland where she opened restaurant Eipic as head chef under Deane, who owns the restaurant. Barry gained a Michelin star within 18 months,[3][5] becoming the only female chef in Ireland to hold the award,[1] and only the second ever.[2] In addition to cooking, she also forages herbs and wild garlic several times a week.[3] Barry has appeared on BBC Two cooking competition Great British Menu in 2015, where she competed for Northern Ireland against Ben Arnold and Chris McGowan.[4] In 2016, she was named Irish Chef of the Year at the ninth Irish Restaurant Awards,[5] while the restaurant was named Ulster Restaurant of the Year and owner Deanes won Entrepreneur of the Year.[1] The same year, Barry was named one of 17 chefs to watch by Olive magazine.[6] References1. ^1 2 {{cite news|last1=McCurry|first1=Cate|title=Danni Barry of Deanes, from washer to Irish Chef of the Year|url=http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/danni-barry-of-deanes-from-washer-to-irish-chef-of-the-year-35002592.html|accessdate=19 November 2017|work=Belfast Telegraph|date=29 August 2016}} {{Michelin stars in Ireland}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Barry, Danni}}2. ^1 2 {{cite news|last1=Lee|first1=Jenni|title=Danni Barry, Ireland's only female Michelin-starred chef|url=http://www.irishnews.com/lifestyle/2016/10/10/news/meet-danni-barry-ireland-s-only-female-michelin-starred-chef-724941/|accessdate=19 November 2017|work=Irish News|date=10 October 2016}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite news|last1=Dwyer|first1=Clare|title=Meet Danni Barry - Ireland's only female Michelin-star chef: 'My dad was the biggest feminist ever because we all did the same jobs'|url=http://www.independent.ie/life/food-drink/meet-danni-barry-irelands-only-female-michelinstar-chef-my-dad-was-the-biggest-feminist-ever-because-we-all-did-the-same-jobs-35793353.html|accessdate=19 November 2017|work=Independent.ie|date=12 June 2017}} 4. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Danni Barry|url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/51p8XPZJTHCGzL7lkHFbtg8/danni-barry|publisher=BBC Two|accessdate=19 November 2017}} 5. ^{{cite news|last1=Madden|first1=Andrew|title=Deane's chef Danni Barry wins chef of the year award|url=http://www.irishnews.com/news/2017/05/10/news/deane-s-chief-danni-barry-wins-top-award-in-dublin-1021418/|accessdate=19 November 2017|work=Irish News|date=9 May 2017}} 6. ^{{cite web|title=N.
