He played college football at Tarleton State University, and signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2014. Phillips has also been a member of the New York Jets, Washington Redskins, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Professional careerDallas CowboysAfter going unselected in the 2014 NFL Draft, Phillips signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a college free agent on May 12, 2014.[1] He was waived on August 28. New York JetsPhillips signed with the practice squad of the New York Jets on October 7, 2014. On December 30, he signed a futures contract with the Jets.[2] The Jets waived/injured him on September 1, 2015.[3] He was waived off the team's injured reserve with a settlement on September 5, 2015. Washington RedskinsThe Washington Redskins signed Phillips to their practice squad on September 15, 2015.[4] He was promoted to the active roster on November 27 to replace Chris Culliver, who was placed on the team's injured reserve.[5] On January 3, 2016, he left the last game of the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys with a severe neck injury. He was carted off and transported to a local hospital where he had feeling in all extremities.[6] Phillips was waived on November 12, 2016 and was re-signed to the practice squad three days later.[7][8] He was promoted back to the active roster on December 2, 2016.[9] On December 5, Phillips was once again released by the Redskins and re-signed to the practice squad.[10][11] He was promoted back to the active roster on December 22, 2016.[12] Pittsburgh SteelersOn August 23, 2017, Phillips was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Lucas Crowley.[13] He was waived on September 2, 2017, and was signed to the Steelers' practice squad the next day.[14][15] He signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers on January 15, 2018.[16] On September 1, 2018, Phillips was released by
