Featherman is an American Emeritus Professor of psychology and sociology and a fellow of Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Woodrow Wilson and Guggenheim Foundation.[2] Early lifeDavid Featherman had obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Franklin and Marshall College in 1965 and two years got his Master's degree in sociology from University of Michigan Ann Arbor followed by a Ph.D. in social psychology another two years later from the same place.[3] CareerBetween 1969 and 1970 he worked at the Princeton University as an Assistant Professor and then held the same position at University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1970 to 1974 in between of which he was Assistant Professor for two years. From 1974 to 1982 he was a Professor followed by a chairman from 1975 to 1978 at the same university. He continued working at the University of Wisconsin-Madison resulting in becoming a director (1980 to 1982) of the university's College of Letters and Sciences department and becoming John Bascom Professor from 1982 to 1993.[3] Also in 1982, he was accepted as a faculty member at Harvard University.[4] From 1989 to 1995 he was a President of the Social Science Research Council where he worked along with Annette Dieli,[5] and then returned to his second alma mater where he became its director from 1995 to 2005. The same year (1995), he became Professor at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor where he still remains as well as for Center for Advancing Research and Solutions for Society (since 2004).[3] In 2014 he and four other colleagues have replicated economic mobility survey of 1962.[6] MembershipsProfessor Featherman is a member of the following societies: American Association for the Advancement of Science, Association for Psychological Science, International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development, Population Association of America and Sociological Research Association.[3] Awards and honors
