Rugby Union careerAmateur careerAt amateur level, McVey played for Greenock Wanderers, Ayr RFC, Stirling County and West of Scotland.[1] Professional and provincial careerBefore playing for the professional Glasgow Warriors side, McVey frequently represented the amateur provincial Glasgow District side.[1] He was one of the famous players who played in Glasgow's unbeaten season of 1989-90. He played 5 out of 6 district matches that season and won that year's Scottish Inter-District Championship.[2] The veteran loose forward was in Glasgow's squad for their first season as a professional club in 1996-97. He was on the bench for Glasgow's European Conference match away to Newport RFC on 26 October 1996.[3] He came on as a temporary replacement to David McLeish in that match.[3] He was also named on the bench for Glasgow's next European match against Agen on the 30 October 1996.[4] He did not, however, play in that match.[5] Coaching careerHe was the First Team Coach of Greenock Wanderers.[6][7] but is now the head coach of Bute Rugby Club.[8] Outside of rugbyMcVey works as a gardener at Mount Stuart and breeds poultry as a hobby.[9] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12057815.Stirling_County_know_that_they_must_make_their_point_McKenzie_set_to_go_for_gold/|title=Stirling County know that they must make their point McKenzie set to go for gold|work=Herald Scotland}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.scotsman.com/sport/underdog-tag-spurred-on-our-glasgow-title-team-says-derek-stark-1-783617|title=Underdog tag spurred on our Glasgow title team, says Derek Stark|publisher=}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12081713.Wanderer_with_a_hard_life/|title=Wanderer with a hard life|work=Herald Scotland}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12081669.Capital_players_are_in__demand/|title=Capital players are in demand|work=Herald Scotland}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12082156.Unlucky_Glasgow_lose_out_to_petty_French/|title=Unlucky Glasgow lose out to petty French|work=Herald Scotland}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/sport/rugby/13997873.Wanderers_dreams_are_shattered/|title=Wanderers dreams are shattered|work=Greenock Telegraph}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.zoominfo.com/p/David-McVey/1555476083|title=David McVey|work=ZoomInfo}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.buteman.co.uk/sport/local-sport/slideshow-bute-rugby-club-see-off-shinty-challenge-just-1-3200155|title=SLIDESHOW: Bute Rugby Club see off shinty challenge - just!|publisher=}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.scotsman.com/news/peter-ross-when-you-walk-into-your-birdhouse-and-see-this-fantastic-specimen-that-you-bred-what-a-rush-better-than-an-orgasm-inside-the-crufts-of-scottish-fowls-1-2071463|title=Peter Ross: ‘When you walk into your birdhouse and see this fantastic specimen that you bred – what a rush.
