Deepa, is an Indian politician{{citation needed|date=February 2017}} started MGR Amma Deepa Peravai.[1][2][3] She is the niece of J. Jayalalithaa, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and grand-daughter of actress Sandhya.[4] Family and EducationDeepa was born on November 10, 1974 to Jayakumar and Vijayalakshmi. Jayakumar is the elder brother of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. She did her schooling in Adharsh Vidyalaya, Chennai. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature degree from the University of Madras [5]. Then she pursued her Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication in Madurai Kamarajar University [6]. Later, she worked as a sub editor in the New Indian Express for a brief period and then went to UK in 2010. She completed an M.A. in International Journalism at the Cardiff university, in Wales. Deepa has a brother Deepak Jayakumar. Deepa's family resided in Poes Garden together with Selvi. Jayalalithaa till 1978 [7]. After the death of grandmother Sandhya, Deepa's father Jayakumar left the Poes Garden house and they started living in a bungalow at Sivanaanam Street in T.Nagar, Chennai. Deepa married K. Madhavan who is a business man. They were married on November 11, 2012 with the consent of both the couple and the consent of Aunt Jayalalithaa [8]. Political lifeBefore Deepa's house, AIADMK volunteers urged her to become AIADMK general secretary and requested her to fill the place of her Aunt. On February 24, 2017, in the occasion of Selvi. Jayalalithaa's birthday, she launched MGR Amma Deepa Peravai. Furthermore, she changed her federation name to AIADMK J. Deepa wing, a team of AIADMK [9]. While the Sasikala family has been conspiring in many ways that she should leave politics, she continues to go on her political journey. Currently, her husband K. Madhavan supports her with the federation and he is the Secretary-General of her federation. On April 12, 2017, she filed her nomination for R.K Nagar bypoll as an independent candidate [10]. But the bypoll was cancelled later. Again she filed her nomination for December 21, 2017 R. K Nagar by-election. But unfortunately her nomination was rejected by the returning officer. Sources said Deepa’s affidavit was not in order and that she had not filled all the columns, especially the one seeking information on value of her properties [11]. Regarding the 2019 Indian general election, she said that her federation will contest alone for all the 40 seats in Tamil Nadu. Later, she announced her support and willingness to tie-up with the AIADMK, saying her outfit belonged to the ruling party and even her followers were in favor of the alliance [12].
