She is an assistant professor at Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, and has authored four books.[1] Deepa's Facebook post supporting a Students' Federation of India (SFI) beef festival in the college where she works had sparked a social media outrage in 2015.[2] In 2018, she plagiarized a poem written by S. Kalesh,[3] and later apologized. [4] Beef Fest controversyNisanth has voiced her opinion publicly on many issues. In a 2015, through a Facebook post she supported a "beef festival" held at her college by members of the Students' Federation of India in protest of the murder of a man in Uttar Pradesh allegedly for eating beef.[5] She said her post was in reaction to "the on-going issue of beef ban and related controversies in the country, in general."[6] In 2017 was reported that police had requested the details from Facebook of various groups that had posted threats against her after she commented on a controversial painting.[7] In June 2018, she refused to share a stage with Urmila Unni after the latter supported the move to reintegrate actor Dileep back into the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists despite being under investigation for conspiracy of kidnapping and an attempted rape.[8] Plagiarism controversyThe name of her book, Ottamara Peythu is allegedly taken from the title of a 2016 book Ottathulli Peythu, written by Ajith Kumar R. [9] In November 2018, she was accused of plagiarism by another Malayalam poet, Kalesh, after he discovered one of his poems, published seven years earlier, had been republished in slightly altered form under her name.[10] The controversy was publicised after well known writers including N S Madhavan, Balachandran Chullikkad, Asokan Charuvil, C S Chandrika, Rosy Thampi and Priya A S joined the debate on social media. After Kalesh posted further details to back up his charge on his Facebook page, criticism grew.[11] Having earlier responded that she had not plagiarised, she later confessed and apologised to S Kalesh via Facebook.[11] As a result of complaints arising from the scandal, a judgement made for a school essay competition by a panel that included Nisanth was vacated, and the essays re-evaluated.[12] Books
