Derrick Johnson was named the interim CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on July 22, 2017.[1] Johnson had previously served as the vice chairman of the NAACP's national board of directors and the president of the Mississippi state chapter of the NAACP. Johnson is the founder of Mississippi nonprofit group Onevoice which aims to improve quality of life in disenfranchised communities through public engagement. He relinquished the role of CEO of One Voice following his appointment as interim CEO of the NAACP.
