Diana D. Cardenas is an American Emeritus[1] Professor of rehabilitation medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and a 38th member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences.

Early life and career

Cardenas had graduated from University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and in 1973 got her M.D. degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. In 1976 she was an intern and resident at the University of Wisconsin in the field of physical and rehabilitation medicine and then joined its faculty in 1981. Since 1987 Cardenas was a clinical director at the Spinal Cord Injury Service, a division of University of Wisconsin and beginning from 1990 she worked at the Spinal Cord Injury Clinic of the same institution. In 2001 she obtained her M.S. degree in health administration from the University of Wisconsin. Cardenas's main specialty is the study of spinal cord injury and spina bifida.[2]
