It was founded in 1988 by Rabbi David Harris, Rabbi Zvi Turk, and Rabbi Yehuda Jacobson, with funding primarily from Irving Langer.[1] Enrollment is approximately 800 at the preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and beis medrash levels.[2] Most students continue in the associated kollel for three to eight years. Rabbi Turk and Rabbi Jacobson are currently co-principals of the yeshiva, and teach the second and first classes of the beis medrash, respectively. It is a Lithuanian-style, Haredi but non-Hasidic yeshiva focusing on Talmud study. LocationThe mesivta (high school) is located at 1271 East 35th Street in Brooklyn, New York, where it shares two buildings with its elementary school, Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel (also called Yeshiva Ketana Tiferes Yisroel). News eventsIn 2009, the entire yeshiva was closed down for two days due to a confirmed case of swine flu.[3][4] The yeshiva was also in the news when a fire in a nearby home caused the evacuation of the yeshiva, and three students, along with their teacher, Rabbi Yigal Abramchik, saved the lives of a woman and her child.[5] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://matzav.com/yeshiva-tiferes-yisroel-to-celebrate-25-years-on-april-30/ |title=Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel to Celebrate 25 Years On April 30 |author= |date=March 24, 2013 |website=Matzav.com |access-date=November 4, 2018 |quote=The goal of the fledgling yeshiva was to inculcate in the talmidim a love for Torah embedded in middos tovos and also supply more “manpower” to the world of chinuch across America and beyond. Fortuitously, Rabbi Turk reached out to his cousin, Mr. Irving Langer, a young real-estate manager and developer, to gain some insight into the Brooklyn market. Mr. and Mrs. Langer were no strangers to building ventures such as this. Embracing their role as leaders and supporters of the Five Towns community since moving there, the Langers were instrumental in building Rabbi Kalish’s shul and the TAG high-school building and were pivotal in Darchei and numerous other community initiatives and institutions. Mr. Langer saw this as a “buying opportunity” and jumped in to be that person to make this dream a reality.}} {{OrthodoxJudaism}}{{Yeshiva-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/brooklyn/yeshiva_in_the_snoop_e73T9frjBlNik3mOfAX5iP |title=Yeshiva in the snoop: Internet-spy edict|last=Blau |first=Reuven|date=August 22, 2010 |access-date=September 8, 2011|work=New York Post}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=34764 |title=EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS: Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel Closed Due To Swine Flu |date=May 24, 2009 |access-date=September 8, 2011 |work=Yeshiva World News}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=34820 |title=BREAKING NEWS: Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel Decides To Reopen On Tuesday |date=May 25, 2009 |access-date=September 8, 2011 |work=Yeshiva World News}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://matzav.com/kiddush-hashem-yeshiva-tiferes-yisroel-students-save-woman-from-burning-home |title=Kiddush Hashem: Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel Students Save Woman From Burning Home |date=February 4, 2010 |access-date=September 8, 2011 |publisher=matzav.com}} 7 : Educational institutions established in 1988|Haredi Judaism in New York (state)|Lithuanian-American culture in New York City|Lithuanian-Jewish culture in New York (state)|Mesivtas|Orthodox yeshivas in New York City|Religious organizations established in 1988 |
