Built in 1917, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. It is the largest remaining structure from the days when Dockton was primarily a ship-building town.[2] HistoryThe Dockton Hotel was built to house employees of John A. Martinolich's shipyard. It is a {{frac|2|1|2}}-story rectangular wood structure with an open porch and four pillars supporting the porch roof.[2] After World War I, business for the shipyard declined and the boardinghouse was no longer needed.[3] The building was sold to be used as a school.[4] After serving as the community's elementary school for 20 years, the property was bought in 1944 by Theodore Berry, a Dockton postmaster, WPA Administrator, and general storekeeper, who turned it into a berry cannery. The building later became a private residence, and has been vacant for some years.[2] References1. ^{{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}2. ^1 2 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=83003337}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Dockton Hotel |publisher=National Park Service|author= |date= |accessdate=February 4, 2019}} With {{NRHP url|id=83003337|photos=y|title=accompanying pictures}} 3. ^{{cite web |last1=Stein |first1=Alan J. |title=Dockton drydock begins operations on Maury Island in the spring of 1892 |url=http://www.historylink.org/File/3910 |website=HistoryLink.org |accessdate=4 February 2019}} 4. ^{{cite web |title=Transformation: 1920 to 1945 |url=http://www.vashonhistory.com/Vashon%20History/Timeline/transfornations.htm |website=Vashon History}} {{Washington-NRHP-stub}} 3 : National Register of Historic Places in King County, Washington|Commercial buildings completed in 1917|1917 establishments in Washington (state) |
