The 2000 Bracknell Forest Borough Council election took place on Thursday 4 May 2000. That was the same day as other United Kingdom local elections, in order to elect members of Bracknell Forest Unitary Council in Berkshire, England. This was the second election for Bracknell Forest since becoming a Unitary Council. The whole Council was up for election, covering 40 seats in the Authority's 19 wards. Since the 1997 election, two By-Elections had been contested in the Authority. These were as follows:
This Council election saw the Green Party and an Independent Conservative faction take part for the first time in the authority's electoral history. Unlike the 1997 Election, there were no candidates running under the New Labour banner. After the election, the composition of the council was:
Election resultThe Conservatives maintained control of the authority [3] with a total of 30 seats compared to Labour's 10. The Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Independent Conservative candidates did not secure a seat on the Council. {{Election Summary Begin|title = Bracknell Forest Local Election Result 1997[4] {{efn|name=2000a}} {{efn|name=2000b}}}}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Conservative Party (UK) |seats = 30 |gain = 7 |loss = 1 |net = +6 |seats % = 75% |votes % = 56.79% |votes = 29,226 |plus/minus = +10.98% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Labour Party (UK) |seats = 10 |gain = 1 |loss = 7 |net = -6 |seats % = 25% |votes % = 34.08% |votes = 17,538 |plus/minus = +0.32% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Liberal Democrats (UK) |seats = 0 |gain = - |loss = - |net = - |seats % = 0% |votes % = 7.29% |votes = 3,752 |plus/minus = -10.15% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Green Party of England and Wales |seats = 0 |gain = - |loss = - |net = - |seats % = 0% |votes % = 1.07% |votes = 553 |plus/minus = +1.07% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Independent Conservative |seats = 0 |gain = - |loss = - |net = - |seats % = 0% |votes % = 0.76% |votes = 390 |plus/minus = +0.76% }}{{Election box end}}{{notelist|refs={{efn|name=2000a|No New Labour (-2.19%) as previous}}{{efn|name=2000b|No Independent (-0.81%) as previous}} }} There were a total of 51,459 votes cast, with turnout significantly reduced from 1997 in all wards. This is likely due to the 2000 Elections not coinciding with a General Election as they had done in 1997.
