HistoryActive Silicon Ltd. is a UK based manufacturer of digital imaging products. Founded in 1988 by Colin Pearce and Chris Beynon, the company began as a technical consultancy in the field of FPGAs but soon became a product-based manufacturing business.[2]The company now supplies frame grabbers, embedded vision systems and imaging components, along with the applicable software, to a diverse global customer base. The business also encompasses extensive pre- and after-sales support. The UK office in Iver is the world headquarters and the primary research and development centre. The business quickly grew too large for the founder’s attic and, after a number of offices, moved to its current UK location in 2009. The US subsidiary, Active Silicon, Inc., was established in 2010 and operates from Severna Park, Maryland.[3] An additional operations and production facility was opened in March 2019 in Langley, UK. In 2009, Active Silicon, as part of the consortium behind CoaXPress, won the Vision Award for development of this new digital interface technology.[4] Technology and applicationsActive Silicon’s product range includes frame grabbers, camera interface boards, embedded systems, and software. All hardware is designed in-house with manufacturing taking place in both Europe and Asia. The company’s UK offices are where final assembly and inspection take place along with the development of software drivers, firmware, libraries, and applications. Active Silicon’s frame grabbers offer both CoaXPress and Camera Link technology.
