Bhumgara has published various research articles and publications that encompass but are not limited to the Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data, Fuzzy Algorithms, Neural Networks, Mathematics, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, ubiquitous computing, etc. She has also carried out research in rural areas of India and Pakistan along with colleague Muhammad Salman on Cloud Computing for underdeveloped countries. She is the daughter of Yazad Bhumgara and the Shernaz Bhumgara, and the great granddaughter of world-cyclist Mr. Rustom R Bhumgara. She has presented her research work at International Conferences like IEEE, etc. She is also a Reviewer at IEEE Access. Afreen has won awards at various platforms, including honors from Parsi Organizations like ZOSTA. In 2017, Afreen founded her first startup - a small firm that aims to help the unprivileged and less resourceful segments of society, and teaches women essential life-development skills. Afreen is also the Founder of an Animal Shelter in Pune, and helps stray animals find a home and gives them medical treatment from her own savings. She is also a Teacher & an Activist at a Local NGO. Afreen has been the Head of multiple Technical Fests, and has organized various events and conferences that helped shed a light on the importance of Women and their involvement in STEM Education. She is an NSHSS member, and considers herself to be a feminist. Afreen spoke on a TEDx (TEDxMITP) platform in 2015 about the various steps to help the Indian Economy, and will speak at TEDxLakhotaLake on 16 Dec, 2018 on Steps to improve the future of Artificial Intelligence in India.
