Biography

Life and career

Moriyama was born {{nihongo|Aimi Ōmori|大森 愛美|Ōmori Aimi}} in Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan. She attended Shioya District Senior High School where she graduated as a certified caregiver.

In the year 2000, she was scouted by composer Hideo Mizumori after appearing in a Nippon TV variety program 'Look Look Konnichiwa' singing 'Tokai no Suzume' by Aya Shimazu.

She went to Tokyo after graduating high school. Through an acquaintance she became an employee at Antonio Inoki's office. He gave her the name 'Moriyama Aiko' because it meant {{nihongo|a child who loves the forest, the mountains and nature |など自然をする|Mori ya yama nado jizen wo aisuru ko}}'.

In May 2004, she debuted as an enka singer under the label EMI Music Japan and won the Rookie of the Year Award at the 37th Japan Cable Radio Awards and at the Japan Record Awards.
