Alexander Ivanovich Shulgin (Born March 17, 1952) is a Russian physicist, biochemist, inventor, and author. He is primarily known for his contribution to the vibroacoustic and electrochemical technologies and the studies of Humic Substance.

Career

Shulgin was born in Gubkin, Belgorod Oblast, Russia. He began studying at the Moscow State Mining University, completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mining physics. Shulgin earned his diploma of Candidate in Technical Sciences, the equivalent of a United States PhD, in 1979.[1] He was a researcher and a professor there until 1990.[2]

The importance of Shulgin’s scientific-technical work has been in research and formulation in the field of technology and the technical means of production and application of humates and humate-mineral substances and compounds in the area of ecological protection and the re-establishment of ecology, as well as in industry and agriculture.

Dr. Shulgin worked for numerous remediation projects for over 30 years and such project included the 1986 Chernobyl disaster and 2005 Hurricane Rita. Shulgin was also a senior executive in the work conducted by the CRADA treaty with Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, by order of the U.S. Department of Energy to clean up soil and landfills contaminated with heavy metals.[3]

In 2005 until 2008, Dr. Shulgin worked as a research professor at the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Louisville.[4] He led many important projects including R&D on remediation of damaged soils for brownfield recovery and on improvement of sewer system processes.

Dr. Shulgin has over 140 scientific-technical reports, and over 50 patents most of which were registered in Russia.[5]

Currently Dr. Shulgin is a Chief Scientist at Organocat, a green science environmental restoration company.
