The company has operations in the Far East and Middle East and exports to over 45 countries[2] HistoryAl Haramain Perfumes was founded in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1970 by Bangladeshi businessman Kazi Abdul Haque. While visiting the Kingdom, Haque discovered the musky smell of Oudh, a resin from the Southeast Asian agar (Aquilaria) tree. Agarwood is used to produce oudh oil, which is described as ‘liquid gold[3]’. Earlier, Al Haramain traded in perfumes with stores in the Saudi cities of Makkah and Madinah before venturing into production. Shortly after, Al Haramain began an agarwood trading operation in Bangladesh. Activities, 1980s-present1980sIn 1981, Al Haramain opened a store in Murshid Bazaar in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The company was now under the chairmanship of the founder’s eldest son Mahtabur Rahman. Due to ease of trade and commerce in Dubai, the company decided to relocate the business to the UAE in 1982. Al Haramain soon began opening additional retail stores in the Emirates. 1990sIn 1992, the company invested in an agarwood processing manufacturing plant in Rumailah in Ajman, the smallest of the emirates which make up the UAE, and began processing and packaging perfumes in the Emirate. The move to the UAE was primarily designed to take advantage of the country’s export capabilities. In 1997, Al Haramain opened a 180,000 square foot factory in Ajman’s New Industrial Area in Ajman[4]. In 1998, Al Haramain entered the Kuwait retail market with a stand-alone store. In 1999, Al Haramain entered the duty-free market, initially in Dubai Duty Free, and later moving into other international duty-free markets[5] References1. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.khaleejtimes.com/nation/general/from-transit-passenger-to-business-tycoon |title=From transit passenger to business tycoon|website=khaleejtimes.com|accessdate=17 January 2016}} 2. ^{{cite news |last1=Basit |first1=Abdul |title=Haramain Group's smell of success |url=https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/markets/haramain-group-s-smell-of-success |work=Khaleej Times |publisher=Khaleej Times |date=January 18, 2015}} 3. ^{{cite news |last1=Piper |first1=Ingrid |title=The scent that’s pricier than gold |url=http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20170306-the-scent-thats-pricier-than-gold |work=BBC Travel |agency=BBC |publisher=BBC |date=March 8, 2017 |language=en}} 4. ^{{cite news |last1=Basit |first1=Abdul |title=Haramain Group's smell of success |url=https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/markets/haramain-group-s-smell-of-success |work=Khaleej Times |publisher=Khaleej Times |date=January 18, 2015}} 5. ^{{cite news |last1=Basit |first1=Abdul |title=Haramain Group's smell of success |url=https://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/markets/haramain-group-s-smell-of-success |work=Khaleej Times |publisher=Khaleej Times |date=January 18, 2015}} |
