{{DISPLAYTITLE:Alireza Khatami}} Alireza Khatami ( Persian: علیرضا خاتمی ; Born 1980) is an Iranian filmmaker and educator based between the United States, and France. On September 3rd, 2017, his first feature film Oblivion Verses (Los Versos Del Olvido), a Spanish language co-production between France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Chile, premiered in the Orizzonti section of the 74th Venice International Film Festival. The film later received Best Screenplay , FIPRESCI Prize for Best Debut Film , and Interfilm Award for Promoting Interreligious Dialogue at the same edition.[1][2][3]. He teaches at DePaul University College of Computing and Digital Media in Chicago[4]. Life and CareerKhatami was born and raised in Darab, Fars Province, Iran, where he was educated to become an engineer[5]. He moved to the capital city of the country, Tehran to pursuit a career in cinema, followed master filmmakers, such as Academy Awards winning director Asghar Farhadi, before he left for Malaysia[6]. In Malaysia, he studied Film and Animation at Multimedia University, and later worked as Visual Effects Supervisor[7]. During this time, he also wrote and co-directed a short film, Focal Point, of which the film won awards, and was an official selection at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam[8][9]. In 2010, he moved to America to study Film and TV Productions at Savannah College of Art and Design, where he received a master's degree. In 2012, he was selected as one of the Resident of Cannes Film Festival's Cinéfondation, and in 2013, the short film he co-directed with Taiwanese director Chang Jung-Chi, Mr. Chang's New Address, under an omnibus project title Taipei Factory, special screened at Directors' Fortnight at Cannes[10] Khatami taught Cinema and Directing at Lebanese American University, and is currently an Assistant professor at DePaul University.
