Introduction

Allianz plc is an insurance company in Ireland and employs over 1,700 people. It is part of the Allianz SE Group based in Munich, Germany, which was established in 1890.^[1] Allianz plc is the Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance arm of Allianz in Ireland. Established in 1902,^[2] Allianz plc is active in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, providing car, home, pet, boat, and travel products, as well as SME (small to medium enterprise) products including van, business, and schools insurance. Today, Allianz in Ireland insures over half a million customers across the country through its portfolio of personal and commercial insurance products. ^[3]

History

In 1999, through their acquisition of AGF, Allianz SE acquired AGF Irish Life Holdings plc in Ireland, which at the time owned Insurance Corporation of Ireland and Church and General Insurance. ^[4] Following their purchase, and despite a minority shareholding by Irish Life, both companies changed their names to Allianz plc, trading simply as Allianz. In 2017, Allianz plc became a wholly owned entity of Allianz SE.

Allianz Leagues

Allianz has a wide and varied portfolio of sponsorships and is a long standing supporter and promoter of GAA through its sponsorships of the Allianz Leagues and Allianz Cumann na mBunscol. Allianz are currently contracted as the title sponsor of the Allianz Leagues up to and including the 2020 season.
