}}Captain Alok Bansal is a former Indian navy officer, an author and has worked for various think-tanks in India such as Centre for Land Warfare Studies, Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses and National Maritime Foundation.[1][2] He is currently a director at India Foundation, a think tank in New Delhi.[3][4]

Alok Bansal is also a columnist for newspapers in India such as The Indian Express and is an adjunct professor at New Delhi Institute of Management as well as a visiting professor at Jamia Millia Islamia.[5][6]

Education

Alok Bansal did his schooling from Sainik School, Rewa. He completed his MSc and MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras and his PhD in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Career

Captain Alok Bansal served as a commissioned officer in the Indian Navy for 26 years. He was part of Indian peacekeeping operations in places like Sri Lanka, and has commanded two warships. He has been a Directing Staff at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington for three years.[2] From 2004 to 2009 he was a fellow at Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA). From October 2009 to February 2011, he was an executive director at the National Maritime Foundation[7][8] following which he joined Centre for Land Warfare Studies as a senior fellow.[9] He has been a director at the Center for Security and Strategy, India Foundation since 2014. He is also the Executive Director of South Asian Institute for Strategic Affairs (SAISA). He is also a visiting faculty at Jamia Milia Islamia in their Academy of International Studies.[6]

Publications

Alok Bansal has contributed to various reports and journals such as the report on "Pakistan’s Nationalism and Ethnic Pulls" in the Centre for Land Warfare Studies journal[10] and "Factors leading to insurgency in Balochistan" in Small Wars & Insurgencies, a Taylor and Francis, Routledge publication.[11][12][2]
