Alta is a ghost town located in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States, approximately {{convert|14|mi|km}} south of Telluride. Alta was constructed as a company town after 1878, used to support mining operations at the nearby Gold King Mine. Alta remained occupied partially until the 1940s and several structures, including a boardinghouse, manager's house, and smaller houses remain.[1] The remains of Alta can be seen from Alta Lakes Road, {{convert|.5|mi|km}} southwest of the Alta Lakes campground and Alta Reservoir.
