The American College of Academic International MedicineThe American College of Academic International Medicine (ACAIM.[1]) represents the US-based community of health-care providers dedicated to the following core principles: -To promote the mission of Academic International Medicine (AIM) professionals in the United States and beyond -To promote clinical, educational and scientific collaboration of AIM professionals, both domestically and globally -To create a platform for domestic and global coordination of academic, clinical and educational efforts involving AIM professionals -To educate, generate and publish new knowledge, create relevant guidelines, and assist policymaking in the area of international medicine -To standardize processes and objective measurements of academic and clinical productivity associated with the participation of U.S. AIM professionals in international endeavors The Development and Growth of International Medicine: Beyond Global HealthAmong more recent developments in the area, the formation of the American College of Academic International Medicine or (ACAIM), provided a renewed impetus toward the consolidation and formalization of U.S. based coordination of Academinc International Medicine or AIM efforts across the multiple currently existing platforms . Since its inception, ACAIM galvanized the U.S. AIM community to action [2], highlighting the need for the formation of cross-disciplinary, bi-directional International Medical Programs or IMPs [3] that foster the sustainable development of AIM efforts while minimizing the deleterious effects of brain drain [4]. Another novel and unique aspect of ACAIM's overall mission and postulate is the need for healthcare institutions, both academic and non-academic, to recognize faculty efforts dedicated to International Medical Program development as valid expressions of academic contribution that should be granted credit equivalence with U.S. based medical outreach efforts [5]. Within such proposed framework, faculty members would receive academic RVU based credit for international work, with academic tracks formally recognizing International Medical Program contributions as equivalent to any other academic or educational work [6] |
