IFS London Fashion Week 2019

In 2019, Ami Doshi Shah was the first Kenyan artist to exhibit her work at the prestigious [https://design.britishcouncil.org/projects/ifs/ifs-2019/ International Fashion Showcase (IFS)] during London Fashion Week 2019. Her exhibit, Salt of the Earth which has been supported by [https://www.britishcouncil.org/east-africa-arts East Africa Arts], Heva Fund and The Nest Collective, examines the concept of power and submission through the talismanic properties of jewellery and adornment. Exploring the complex historical, political and chemical properties of salt, the collection forms part of a conceptual installation at Somerset House from the 11th - 24th of February 2019.

The International Fashion Showcase (IFS) nurtures and presents work from the most exciting fashion talent from around the world. Working in partnership, British Council, British Fashion Council, University of the Arts London and Somerset House provide a tailored programme for 16 emerging international designers, including a business development programme lead by London College of Fashion and a creative residency within Somerset House Studios in London.

Not African Enough - A Fashion Book 2017

Not African Enough presents a collection of words and images from a selection of emerging Kenyan designers who are contributing to the shifting aesthetic of our country. Under the creative direction of collective member Sunny Dolat, the Nest Collective has spent the past two years exploring the idea of what constitutes Kenyan fashion with a crop of contemporary Kenyan fashion designers. Theirs is a story of challenging the narrow expectations of what African design looks like, and intellectually and aesthetically engaging their consumers—and indeed contemporary culture—with their work.
