Andrew John Griffee (born 25 August 1961) is a former BBC senior manager, media consultant and author.

Early life and education ===

Griffee was born in Gibraltar in 1961, the son of an Army Physical Training Instructor. He is the eldest son of John and Kathleen Griffee and grew up on army bases including Blandford Forum, Colchester, Germany (Detmold), Aldershot and Hong Kong. Aged 11, He won a competitive entry place at The Duke of York's Royal Military School in Dover, Kent where he was the first pupil-editor of the Yorkist school magazine. After leaving school, he studied for the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) Proficiency Certificate at Highbury College, Portsmouth in 1981. After qualifying as a senior reporter (see below) he went on to study at the University of Manchester (1983-1986) and gained a First Class BA (Hons) in Combined Studies (English Literature and American Studies with Classical Civilisations).

He began his career as a junior reporter on the Poole and Dorset Herald (Southern Newspapers Group) in 1982 before going to university. After graduating, he worked for the Bath Evening Chronicle as a senior reporter (1986-1988). Griffee joined the BBC in Bristol in 1988 as a television reporter/producer on the regional news programme, Points West and was promoted to Assistant News Editor. He became Editor, News and Current Affairs at BBC South in 1992 and in 1997 he was appointed Head of Regional and Local Programmes, BBC South where he was responsible for the region's television output as well as BBC Radio Solent, BBC Southern Counties Radio and BBC Radio Berkshire.

Griffee became Controller, BBC English Regions in 1999. He had overall editorial and managerial responsibility for 40 BBC local radio station, 12 BBC television regions and 46 BBC local websites. He led 3,000 staff, was responsible for a £200 million annual budget and was based at the BBC English Regions headquarters at Pebble Mill in Birmingham (later The Mailbox). In 2001 he launched the first annual Frank Gillard Awards for BBC Local Radio stations in England. In 2002 he announced a new strategy for BBC English Regions called Connecting England and the Controller English Regions role was combined with the lead ambassadorial role for the BBC in Birmingham. Griffee also led the Lead More, Manage Less workstream for Making It Happen, the BBC's major culture change programme and helped to establish a new leadership training partnership with Ashridge Business School.

After 10 years as Controller, BBC English Regions, Griffee moved to London as Editorial Director and then overall Director of the BBC's W1 Project. He managed the final 5 years of the 10 year project to redevelop BBC Broadcasting House in London, overseeing its expansion, technical fit-out and the migration of 5,500 staff from BBC TV Centre and other BBC buildings. The £1,046bn scheme was the largest capital project in the BBC's history. During this time, he was also one of two management-appointed Trustees of the BBC Pension Fund.

Griffee left the BBC in 2013 after a 25 year career. In 2014 he became a Partner with international media consultancy, Marquis Media Partners and advised broadcasters including MBC (Dubai), RTM (Kuala Lumpur) and Al Jazeera (Qatar). He was also appointed to the CCTV+ Advisory Council, based in Beijing. He left Marquis in 2017 and is now focused on fiction writing. He authored The Abberley Space Rocket, a children's book which was printed by Orphans Press of Leominster to mark the centenary of Abberley Hall preparatory school in Worcestershire. His first full-length novel, Canal Pushers, will be published by Orphans in May 2019 as part of a crime thriller series set on the UK's canals and waterways called the Jumping Jack Flash Thrillers.

Griffee was awarded the Frank Gillard award for Outstanding Contribution to BBC Local Radio in 2008.

The Association of Project Management judged the BBC W1 Project to be winner of Programme of the Year (2013)

Griffee is married to Helen Griffee, Communications Manager of St Richard's Hospice, Worcester and has a son William and daughter Ella. His hobbies include raising rare breed Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, maintaining a 1961 Mark 1 Triumph Spitfire and narrow-boating on England's canal network.
