Aria Shahghasemi is an Iranian-American stage and television actor. He is known for playing Landon Kirby as a guest on The Originals and as a regular in its spin-off series, Legacies.

Early life

Shahghasemi is a first-generation Iranian-American. He is the oldest of two children born to Iranian immigrants and grew up in suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota. Growing up, Shahghasemi played soccer, football, hockey, and tennis. He also performed in high school plays. Shahghasemi studied theatre at Southern Oregon University before transferring to the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. Shortly after graduating, Shahghasemi booked his first television roles.^[1]

Career

Shahghasemi's on-screen debut was as a guest star in the CBS police procedural series Unforgettable, playing Davis Bennett in the episode titled "Behind the Beat" in 2015.^[2] In 2016, he appeared in the NBC crime drama series Special Victims Unit in an episode titled "Forty-One Witnesses" as Omar.^[3]^[4] He also landed roles in the Off-Broadway play Connected and in the 2018 independent feature film No Alternative.^[1]^[5]

In November 2017, it was reported that Shahghasemi had been cast as Landon for the fifth and final season of The CW's supernatural drama series, The Originals, to debut in the twelfth episode of the season. The episode titled "The Tale of Two Wolves" also serves as the penultimate episode of the series.^[6]^[7] The character was described as a "thoughtful, compassionate and self-aware kid from the wrong side of the tracks" and was brought in to serve as a foil for Danielle Rose Russell's character Hope Mikaelson.^[6] In March 2018, it was announced that Shahghasemi would reprise his role in a potential Hope-centric spin-off series as part of the main cast.^[8] The series, titled Legacies, was officially picked up to series that May.^[9]^[10] Legacies premiered on October 25, 2018 and was renewed for a second season in January 2019.^[11]^[12] The mystery surrounding Shahghasemi's character Landon Kirby's supernatural status as well as his burgeoning relationship with Hope were central storylines in the first season.^[13]^[14]
