Early Life and EducationSchneider learned to climb in his home state of Vermont.[4] He completed his undergraduate education at Tufts University in Medford, MA.[2] His studies in Political Science later influenced some of the philosophy in his writings.[5] BooksShaded by StoneSchneider's 2019 memoir, Shaded by Stone, follows rock climbing adventures in Utah, British Columbia, California and Nevada.[6] Schneider began writing it as an introspective therapeutic journal but it was later molded into a book for the general reader. It is a story about climbing, but the audience was not intended to be limited solely to rock climbers.[5] Italicized breaks in the story are used to explain technical climbing terms to non-climbers.[7] Themes in the book bring up questions about self-worth and the frustrations involved with pursuing a creative life. The philosophical discussions in the text are intertwined with stories about struggles with alcohol addiction, positive support found through the climbing community, and achievements in the mountains including a number of first ascents.[7] Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra influenced some of the philosophical thought in Shaded by Stone. Zarathustra was quoted in the book front matter, and a tacit connection to Thus Spoke Zarathustra The book cover and many of the illustrations within the hardcover version of the book were created by artist Devon Savino.[5] Where the Wind HealsSchneider's first memoir, Where the Wind Heals, is about a road trip from Boston to the north coast of Alaska and the emotional power of the wilderness.[1] In Where the Wind Heals, Schneider reflects on his battle with depression during climbing trips in Colorado and Canada, as well as a sea kayaking expedition in southeast Alaska.[2] GuidebooksSchneider's Gaspésie Select: Backcountry Skiing Québec's Chic-Choc Mountains was the first English guidebook for skiing in the Gaspé region.[8] He also wrote Outdoor Leadership and Education, a short handbook for outdoor adventure guides, based on a class he taught at Tufts University.[2]{{AFC submission|t||ts=20190128220937|u=Xalibullc|ns=118|demo=}} References1. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/entertainment/2018/12/02/vermont-authors-books-holiday-gift-list/2160447002/|title=48 Vermont-centric books that could make for perfect holiday gifts|website=Burlington Free Press|language=en|access-date=2019-01-28}} Category:ClimbingCategory:WritersCategory:Mountaineering booksCategory:Mountaineering{{AFC submission|||ts=20190128221115|u=Xalibullc|ns=118}}2. ^1 2 3 {{Cite web|url=http://www.adventuresportspodcast.com/2018/10/ep-432-alpine-climbing-and-using.html|title=Alpine Climbing and Using Wilderness For Healing|last=|first=|date=|website=Adventure Sports Podcast|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.bound2escape.com/spotlights/spotlight-where-the-wind-heals-by-ari-schneider/?fbclid=IwAR2Oo5qb4kIPSJ6qjjSzvbNWm_fyNXNAP76OKUJ4jb6g9cGLrqpgD-D6xNQ|title=Spotlight: Where the Wind Heals by Ari Schneider|last=|first=|date=|website=Bound 2 Escape|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=https://menreadingbooks.blogspot.com/2018/10/where-wind-heals.html?fbclid=IwAR1XKeMvsFJvjueDfNXJVtVrAumpu55AXK2HGcxOUrq8HYq4UICuIED1mlk|title=Where the Wind Heals|last=|first=|date=|website=Men Reading Books|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=}} 5. ^1 2 3 {{Cite news|url=|title=An interview with author Ari Schneider|last=Dennis|first=Alison|date=6 March 2019|work=Weigh My Rack|access-date=}} 6. ^{{Cite book|title=Shaded by Stone|last=Schneider|first=Ari|publisher=|year=2019|isbn=978-1732348233|location=|pages=}} 7. ^1 {{Cite news|url=|title=Shaded by Stone by Ari Schneider: A Book Review|last=Dennis|first=Alison|date=6 March 2019|work=Weigh My Rack|access-date=}} 8. ^{{Cite book|title=Gaspésie Select: Backcountry Skiing Quebec's Chic-Choc Mountains|last=Schneider|first=Ari|publisher=|year=2017|isbn=978-1388322526|location=|pages=}} |
