Arkhai Sculpture Park located in the small village of Vlaha about 17 kms from Cluj-Napoca, was built by sculptor Ernő Bartha. Its construction started in 2008 and has been constantly developing ever since. The park is unique in the world due to the monumental hay sculptures it houses. The shaping of the land happened over 3 years, when dozens of stone trucks originating from Leghia and Vişta were transported from in the park. The rocks came from Iara Valley. The first construction on this land was the stone fence (80 m long, 2.5 m high, 50 cm wide), which has the scope of defining the space, showing visitors that once it is passed, another world opens in front of them. The Bacchus Sanctuary (50 m²) is located on the right part of the land and represents a gallery and vaulted cellar built of stone in traditional technology. On the façade, there is a sculpture, carved in 2012 after a relic of the Roman Age found in the area of Dobrogea. The central figure pictures Bacchus, surrounded by a Thracian rider, dancing nymphs and the image of Pan. The park officially opened its doors in 2014 and has hosted ever since numerous events, concerts, outdoor movie screenings, camps, workshops and programs for children (horse-riding, textile workshops, ceramics, theater etc .). Since 2014, the Amphitheater of the Park annually hosts outdoor screenings at the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF). The visitors’ record was reached when 1,700 people entered the gates of the park. Every year, the Alternative Canine Festival in Vlaha is held in August, in collaboration with veterinarian Péter Madaras. Time Spiral was displayed in London Pleasure Gardens, Bird and Skyscraper on the lake of Victoria Park. Duplicates of these artworks can be found in Arkhai Sculpture Park.
