Arturo Bignoli

Arturo Juan Bignoli.[1] [2] was an Argentinian civil engineer and President of ANCEFN (Academia Nacional de Ciencias Exactuas, Fisicas Naturales) [1] 2001-2004 and President of Academia Nacional De Ingenieria (the National Academy of Engineering) 1999-2010 [2]

Early Life & Education

Bignoli was born in Buenos Aires in 1920.[1] He began his teaching career in the University of Buenos Aires as Assistant Professor in 1944 and became a full Professor there in 1989. At the Argentine Catholic University he was appointed full Professor in 1963, Dean of Engineering (1976-1984). He was a "Doctor Honoris Causa" from the University of Tucumán (1990) and an Honorary Professor of the National University of Córdoba (1983), Extraordinary Professor of the UCA of Salta (1991), Plenary Professor of the University of Belgrano (1994), He was an Invited Professor of the Universities of Rosario, Northeast, Córdoba, Tucumán. Career

Bignoli worked on the structural design of atomic power plants, hydroelectric works, thermal power plants, industrial buildings, elevators, ports, bridges and large structures for high-rise buildings[1] [3]. He helped to develop the structural regulations of the Argentine Republic [1] [4] He researched methods of using fuzzy logic for safety and security problems. [5]

Awards & Honours

In May 2018 a plenary session of the National Academy of Engineering of Argentina renamed the “National Academy of Engineering Award" as the "Ing. Arturo J. Bignoli Award". [6]. The citation reads "The prize 'National Engineering Academy Ing. Arturo J. Bignoli' aims to distinguish engineers who have developed their professional activity in the country with national qualification and who have distinguished themselves by their works, research works, publications or university teaching, in the field of Engineering that in each case will set the Academy and whose activity has meant contributions of exceptional merit for the progress of the country and for the position of the same in the international field within the matter, considering it as Prize of Consecration".[6]

Personal Life

Bignoli married twice. After his first wife died he married again. His second wife died in 2016.
