Asha Mathur is an Indian scientist. She is a scientist in Medical microbiology, virology, and Immunology. She is a recipient of the Senior National Woman Bio-scientist Award.[1] She published more than 170 works during her career.

Early Life and Education

Mathur was born in Uttar Pradesh in 1938. Her father was Jagadish Narayan. He is an engineer. she is the second daughter of Jagadish Narayan. Her mother Bindeshwari is an artist. Her grandfather was one of the first Indian civil surgeons and her uncle was an eye doctor. With the inspiration of her grandfather and uncle, she joined medicine in Agra Medical College and completed her bachelor's. Later she joined in King Georges' Medical College where she received a doctor of medicine and was awarded a gold medal for the studies of pathology and Microbiology. she worked as a faculty at microbiology department and educated her graduate and postgraduate students at the same time she continued research on virology. In 1971 she was awarded a world health organization fellowship to work on respiratory viruses at the Common Cold Unit in Salisbury, England where she worked with Dr. D.A.J. Tyrrell and Sir John Andrews.[2]

Research

Mathur helped in the research of host immune response, virus stability, and delay. she developed the immunofluoroscent technique for the rapid diagnosis of Japanese neuromuscular virus infection[3]
