Ash Rosen was born on December 29, 1987 in Omaha Nebraska. He was the only child of his parents Martha and Vincent. His mother worked part-time as a piano tutor while his father was employed at a local auto shop. He was smaller then most kids his age, having a fragile looking frame that could broken with a punch. From a young age Ash his parents recall him having an interest in taking pictures and videos with the family camera. In his younger years Rosen was a quiet kid not socializing much, instead choosing to make home movies with his action figures. At 10 his parents divorced and his mother took custody of him. Although his relationship with his father was good as a child he never reconnected with Vincent later in life. His mother and him moved to the east coast and resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Ash spent the rest of his childhood and teens there, learning more social skills throughout his elementary and high school years. While attending high school he joined the student news teams as a news caster and even became involved in the drama club. After getting his diploma Ash attended Atlantic University at Virginia Beach for a degree in Broadcast Journalism. At 22 his mother died after years of battling with cancer, this affected Ash's outlook on life as a whole. After getting his bachelors he moved away from Virginia to get away from the lingering grief of Martha. He ended up in New York City working as a weather man for local news station. The pay wasn't great and he was forced to reside in the lower east side of the city. This was a point in his life that he refuses to look back at, for years he was stuck in the poorer area of the city trying make ends meat. Eventually he found employment at the New York Times as a correspondent to political events in the country. At age 29 he was picked as part of a group for covering international stories around the globe. Rosen was hesitant at first but decided the travelling would be great for him. For a year he traveled between Asia, Europe, and South America covering all types of events. In 2017 his crew was sent into the Middle East, specifically Yemen to report and document on a civil war that most the world was unaware of. His group landed in the government held sector of the country and was under protection during their trips around the war torn areas. Ash spent months recording and interviewing thousands across the deserts, seeing all types of horrors along the journey. The countless pictures of the starving and dying took a toll on how he viewed the conflict and war in general. During a trip into Mocha, one the most contested areas during that time, he stumbled upon a truth. The government had been blocking supplies and food from reaching the people in areas controlled by the rebels. After seeing the rows of hungry people and destroyed homes Ash saw one boy in the crowd and gave him food and water. The boy's name was Ahmar a five year old who had lost his parents and family in the war was left all on his own. After meeting Ahmar Ash decided to instead of documenting to helping those in need. While he spent the rest of his time in Yemen, he handed out supplies to anyone to who needed them. Ash Rosen is the protagonist of Michael Petrilli's piece "Empty" surrounding the events in Yemen.
