Then the tornado struck the Omaha Yard in Minneapolis and damaged the roundhouse before hitting the city of Saint Paul. The tornado damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and homes in Saint Paul and obliterated most of the High Bridge. Before being torn from its mounts, a U.S. Weather Bureau anemometer on top of the Pioneer Press building recorded a wind gust of 180 mph, one of the highest wind speeds recorded in Minnesota.
