Autumn Tone Records was launched by Justin Gage[1] (founder of the online music magazine [https://aquariumdrunkard.com/ Aquarium Drunkard]) in 2006. The label's name, and its original intent, was a nod to the sonic aesthetic concerning the music Gage was listening to at the time; specifically Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music.[2] Originally focused on outsider folk and acoustic music, the label soon began releasing a variety of sounds from post-punk and garage, to psychedelia and orchestral pop.
