It was released as Early Access on January 23, 2017 through Steam.[3] The game is mainly based on creating and flying spaceships through procedurally generated galaxy sectors.[4] GameplayThe player's main objective is to build and upgrade his spaceship. He therefore needs to mine, trade and fight in order to gain resources. [5][6][7][8]The game world consists of small sectors that, in their entirety, form one big galaxy. Sectors closer the center of the galaxy yield better resources, but have a higher difficulty with stronger enemies.[1] The player repeatedly gets mission objectives which he can pursuit, if he wants to. DevelopmentAvorion was initially developed by Konstantin Kronfeldner. He started the game as a hobby project in December 2011.[2] In April, 2016, Konstantin launched a Kickstarter campaign for Avorion. To promote the kickstarter campaign, he also created an Imgur post, demonstrating various features of the game.[9] The post received a lot of attention, and the kickstarter raised over 16,000€.[10] On December 15, 2015, Avorion was greenlit by the Steam community, meaning the game would eventually be added to the Steam store.
