BALESH SHARMABalesh Sharma (born 4 September 1964) is the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Idea Limited, since 31st August 2018. [1][2][3]EARLY LIFEAn alumnus of Mayo College, Sharma completed his Mechanical Engineering and MBA (Marketing and Finance) from Rajasthan University. He is known for technology innovation and people management skills. [4][5]CAREERHe started his career gaining valuable sales experience in Office Automation with Xerox and Ricoh at the beginning of his career. He then served the telecom giant Hutchison Telecom (previously known as Vodafone India) as its COO from January 2003 to January 2011. After Hutchinson, Sharma started his international sojourn with Vodafone Malta, as its CEO from February 2011 to November 2013. [6]Sharma worked with Vodafone Czech Republic from January 2014 to March 2017 in the capacity of CEO, before being called back to India in April 2017 to ensure he has an understanding of the Indian business before taking up the role of CEO at Vodafone Idea Limited. He joined Vodafone India as its Chief Operating Officer (COO), a Director on the board of Vodafone India Ltd and a member of its Executive Committee, prior to becoming the CEO of the merged entity. [7][8][9]Sharma is a Vodafone veteran, with over 25 years of experience in various positions. His professional tenure covers an array of cultures and geographies. He is known for building a strong transformational leadership, creating successful turnarounds and leading for impact. Sharma was responsible for leading the Circle operations, Service Delivery, Marketing, Commercial and Enterprise functions in his previous roles.
