BGI Genomics, founded in 1999, provides commercial next generation sequencing (NGS) services, genetic tests and molecular diagnostic solutions for medical institutions, research institutions and other public and private partners in China and internationally. BGI Genomics states its mission is to leverage its genomics expertise in order to advance life science research and improve human health for the benefit of mankind.[1] Headquartered in Shenzhen, China, BGI Genomics has branches and medical laboratories in many of China’s major cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Wuhan, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The company also has sites in North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, including laboratories in Copenhagen, Denmark, San Jose, CA and Hong Kong, China. BGI Genomics works with more than 3000 medical institutions and more than 300 hospitals in 100 countries.[2] BGI Genomics is the independent commercial sequencing services and genetic testing entity of BGI Group, the world's largest genetics research centre.[3] On July 14, 2017, BGI Genomics carried out a RMB 547 million (about $81 million) initial public offering by selling 40.1 million shares at a list price of RMB 13.64 ($2.02) per share on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s ChiNext board[4].
