Bharatendu Verma is an entrepreneur and former President, The Students' Union, Shri Ram College of Commerce.^[1] He was the President for the year 2016-17. He is the Co-Founder of Dwarka based local media platform DwarkaWala^[2]'^[3].

Early Life

He was born to Sushil Kumar Singh, a Lecturer of Hindi, working with Directorate of Education, Govt. of Delhi and Babita, a homemaker in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He has a younger brother named Jayvardhan who studies at College of Vocational Studies.

Verma did his schooling from Mount Carmel School situated in Sector 22, Dwarka. After which he pursued a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the famous SRCC (Shri Ram College of Commerce), Delhi University. He was a prefect in school and very active in drama, dance and sports.

Time at SRCC

He was elected as the President of the Students' Union SRCC in September 2016, which organised Crossroads '17^[4]^[5] and Business Conclave '17^[6], two of the largest fests organised in Delhi University that year.

In SRCC, He joined a few societies, street play being one of them. He performed street plays all over the He is the founding President of the Ideation Cell, SRCC, which he started in the year 2015.

His paper titled - 'Spectrum of Indian Politics' was also published in the foundation issue of the Journal "STRIDES – A Students' Journal of Shri Ram College of Commerce, Volume 1, Issue 1, 2016-17"^[7] on the occasion of 91st Annual Day of College held on 13th April, 2017. The Journal was released by Shri Prakash Javadekar, Honb'le Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India.^[8]

Yo-Yo Honey Singh Controversy

During Verma's tenure as President, rumours broke that Yo Yo Honey Singh, the famous Punjabi Star was going to perform at SRCC.^[9] The rumour was however clarified by Verma in statements to the media.^[10]^[11]^[12]

DwarkaWala

In April 2014, Verma started a community called 'Life of A DwarkaWala' on facebook, which garnered huge interest.^[13] The community currently stands at more than 36000 people on Facbook^[14] and has more than 5000 followers on Instagram^[15]. DwarkaWala has a monthly reach of 4 lac people in Dwarka via mediums of web, social media and print.^[16]
