}}Bioblox, stylised BioBlox, is a suite of freely-available interactive games in which users dock biological molecules, typically proteins.[1] [2]. The platform currently consists of three separate games: BioBlox2D, BioBlox3D and BioBloxVR. BioBlox was developed by Goldsmiths' College, Department of Computing in collaboration with the Bioinformatics Centre of Imperial College London and funded by the BBSRC.

BioBlox2D

BioBlox2D is a game in which users must match both the geometry and charges of falling ligands to the receptor at the bottom. This is a simplified, 2-dimensional version of the protein docking problem. Questions related to molecular science are asked as the player progresses to higher levels. It is freely available for Android and iOS devices.

BioBlox3D

In BioBlox3D, users must dock 3-dimensional protein structures. A score is calculated based on the quality of the user’s alignment. The protein docking problem is a challenge in computational biology due to the need to match both the complex geometry and charges of protein surfaces and the conformational changes that proteins undergo upon binding [3]. The developers created BioBlox3D with the hope that users' input can be used by researchers to improve our ability to predict how proteins will interact.

BioBloxVR

BioBloxVR renders 3-dimensional protein structures which users can view and manipulate using a virtual reality headset. The purpose is to align the proteins and maximise a score. As of September 2018, BioBloxVR is still under development. BioBloxVR was demonstrated at New Scientist Live 2017 [4]
