Bioshotcrete is a new experimental construction method consisting in spraying with drones different layers of biomaterials on a light easily mounted formwork. This hybrid technique based on princioles of wattle and daub and shotcrete allows to build in a few days large structures using only clay mixes carefully formulated and drone sprayed following a precise sequence while respecting drying times.

The drones fitted with a spraying hoze leading to a small pump on the ground where the materials are stirred fit in 2 pieces of luggage that can be brought in remote sites. The advantage of using such system to spray the different non-cement based mortars onto an easily mounted framework such as bespoke inflatables or gridshells until reaching sufficient thickness and curing time offer the opportunity to build on cliffs, from the other side of a river or simple to coat very tall facades without the need for scaffoldings or cranes.

The technique has been developed by French Architect Stephanie Chaltiel through a Marie Curing EU funding called Innochain.

Recent experimental built architecture include the dome built at the domaine du boisbuchet in August 2018, the 5 m tall drone sprayed indoors wall at KADK in Copenhagen and the Mud Shell Project: Emergency shelter prototype built during the London Design Festival 2018 part of the Designjunction festival.
