Bode Galerie & Edition is a gallery for modern and contemporary art in Nuremberg (Germany) and Daegu (South Korea). It is a member of the [https://www.bvdg.de/galerien Federal Association of German Galleries and Editions][1] and the only German gallery in the Gallery Association of Daegu[2].

History

Bode Galerie & Edition was founded in 1984 in Nuremberg by the German gallerist and art publisher Klaus D. Bode (* 1962).[3]

Klaus D. Bode is a founding member of the Federal Association of German Art Publishers, for which he also worked on a voluntary basis on the board. For the association he was on the committee of the German Cultural Council and participated in the merger of the association with the Federal Association of Galleries to today's Federal Association of German galleries and art publishers.[4]

Since its founding, Bode Galerie conveys art of the classical art genres: painting, sculpture and original graphics with a focus on representational contemporary art. Bode Galerie passionately conveys artistic positions that are distinguished by their timeless and unique design idiom and thus provide decisive impulses within contemporary art.[5] The works of the represented artists are presented in solo and group exhibitions.[6] In addition, Bode Galerie is active in the art trade, for example in 2017 the exhibition "Sammlung Reinz", including works by Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Willi Baumeister, Fernando Botero and Pablo Picasso took place.[7]

The gallery is located in the city center of Nuremberg on Lorenzer Straße in the neighborhood of the Neues Museum and the Kunsthalle Nürnberg.

Since 2007, the gallery is also regularly present in Asia. In addition to participating in art fairs in China and Korea, gallery artists have been presented in an own gallery space in Daegu, South Korea since 2014, offering them a platform for the sustainable communication of artistic concepts in East Asia.[8] Through this intercultural conjunction, Bode Galerie is able to convey exceptional South Korean artists, such as Jong-Taek Woo, into the German cultural space.[9]

The artists represented by the gallery include Peter Angermann, Donata Benker, Ottmar Hörl[10], Tillmann Damrau, Thomas Junghans, Dietrich Klinge, Roger Libesch, Herbert Maier, Harry Meyer, Cony Theis, Bernd Schwarting, Ralf Klement, Menno Fahl and Jong-Taek Woo.

In addition, Bode Galerie also mentors works of the German-American artist Karl Hagedorn[11]. Since 2017, Bode Galerie also works closely with the estate of the German post-war artist Max Ackermann and has realized his first solo exhibition in Asia.[12]

The cooperation with the gallery artists is characterized by close personal contact and regular shows in Germany and abroad. Also, various exhibitions are curated in art associations with artists such as Karl Hagedorn or Harry Meyer. Due to close contacts to South Korea and its museums, Bode Galerie was able to realize an exhibition in the Indang Museum in Daegu with the exceptional German sculptor Dietrich Klinge.[13]

In order to attract attention on interesting positions in art history, Bode Galerie regularly exhibits not only gallery artists, but also important art historical positions such as Otto Piene, Georg Baselitz, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali.

The publisher of the gallery publishes catalogs, monographs and catalogs of works by gallery artists.[14]
