Bombay Bairag is a Mumbai-based music band, founded and formed in 2016.

Bombay Bairag is fronted by AR Thakur[1] on vocals, Apurva[2] on female vocals, with Vivek Mayekar on keys, Akhil Sindhwani on bass, Parth Joshi on guitars & Jignesh Patel on drums.

AR Thakur as the Singer-Songwriter of the band, writes the lyrics and puts together the compositions. The band does not focus on any specific genre and has composed across genres. Though their first outing, or The Sound of Season 1 as they call it, was heavily loaded with compositions rooted in Indian Classical/Sufi traditions. The compositions later on are from across genres.

The band’s maiden performance happened at The Bandra Base, Mumbai[3] and they opened to a full house. The concert was a sold out and landed them another concert at the same venue two weeks later.

Simultaneous to these gigs, the band released its first solo, “The Rain”[4] launched by Hungama. While it did get critical acclaim[5], the response from the mainstream music business was lacklustre.

Their big moment came when the band was spotted by the music curators of Kala Ghoda Arts Festival and was given a slot in Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2017. Their outing at KGAF 2017[5] was well received and their name slowly started coming up on the gig map.

In the commercial gig circuit, they became famous through the musical show Music Mojo, which is telecast on Kappa TV. Bombay Bairag did a series with them which was a mix of originals and covers. One of the covers “Ikk Kudi"[6] became very popular through social networking sites and YouTube.

Since its inception in 2016, the band has performed at over 100 venues[7] and released their own album, The Sound of Season 1. Some of the marquee venue they have performed at includes Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, NIFT Patna, Hard Rock Café[8], Lager & Barrel Festival, Sangeet Natak Kala Academy, NIT Kurukshetra, IIT, Delhi, Rannutsav[5], MTV Flypp,[9] Times Lit Fest, Mood Indigo, IIT Mumbai, Hyderabad Literary Festival[10]. They have been featured in Mid-day, The Asian Age[11] amongst other media outlets[8].

As of June 2018, the band was working towards releasing their second album “Ready for Bollywood”.
