The Bourbon News-Mirror is a newspaper that was published in Bourbon, Indiana, United States of America. It was bought out by Horizon Publications which runs The Pilot News.[1] The Pilot News is a publisher based out of Plymouth, Indiana. It was originally printed as a Republican Party newspaper, switched to a Democratic Party newspaper, and now is considered biased conservative newspaper. It is published and distributed every Thursday. It is published along with four other newspapers including The Bremen Enquirer, The Culver Citizen, The Leader of Starke County, and Advance News all distributed throughout Marshall County, Indiana, United States of America.

History

The News-Mirror is named from the consolidation of two separate newspapers bought by the same individual. They include The Mirror which was introduced in 1871 by Ignatius Mattingly and his son in law William Geddes. Editors of the Independent Republican Party Journal included Bud Mattingly, A.R. Zimmerman, William Escott, and S. E. Harris. In 1896 the Mattingly's sold the Mirror to A.R. Zimmerman who changed the papers political affiliation to the Democratic Party. In 1897 Zimmerman sold the journal to William Escott who sold The Mirror to J.C. Shuler in November 1900. The News was a newspaper started by C.M. and S.E. Harris in 1893 as a non-political, local newspaper. On November 8, 1900, S.E. Harris was the sole owner sold the publications to J.C. Shuler who combined the News with the Mirror to form the News-Mirror.

After forming the News-Mirror, Shuler would retire in 1901 and S.E. Harris would assume the position as editor and publisher. Gerard B. Harris, son of S.E. Harris, acquired the news paper in 1909. Where he continued to operate the paper as an independent Republican party paper until his death on September 9, 1945. In December Harris's estate would sell the News-Mirror to Phil H. Bennett, who in turn sold it to Resse H. Price in January of 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Price edited the News-Mirror until 1957, when they sold the paper to Mr. and Mrs. Neal A. Glass. In 1958 the News-Mirror was sold to a group of citizens headed by Dorothy Price. In 1959 the News-Mirror was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Byron Troyer, who in turn sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Artley D. Cullum and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Harman, who continued to operate the paper through out the 1980s and eventually being acquired by the Horizon Publishing Company.
