It's name originates from the Old Ottoman and literally means "grey hill" or "blemished hill". The village is 550 m (1,800 ft) above sea level which is the highest elevated land in Ordu. There are also many places at the summit with views over the city of Ordu and the Black Sea. This village and hill is known for its gondola which provides an easy and memorable way of transportation to the hilltop from the city coast. GondolaThe gondola in Boztepe, also referred to as the Ordu Boztepe Gondola (Ordu Boztepe Teleferik Hatti), is an aerial lift line connecting Ordu to the nearby hilltop of Boztepe. The Ordu Municipality owns and manages the aerial lift. SpecificationsThe Ordu Boztepe Gondola can transport 1800 passengers hourly with up to 8 people per cable car and a total of 28 cars. It takes a total of 6.5 minutes for a one way trip to the hill or down from the hill, during which the passenger can see the view of the Black Sea and the city of Ordu. The lift line is 2,350 m (7,710 ft) long and extends from sea level on the Black Sea coast in Ordu to an altitude of 498 m (1,634 ft) to the mountain station located in Boztepe. History & CostThe history of the gondola dates back to June 9, 2012 when the line officially opened. Leitner Ropeways of Letiner Group, an Italian company, constructed the gondola for a cost of 11 million Turkish lira (~US $6 million). Regarding costs, buying a round trip on the Gondola as a full ticket costs 10 TL ($2) and a student ticket costs 8 TL ($1.50). Buying a one-way ticket as a full ticket costs 6 TL ($1.20) and a student ticket is 5 TL ($1). Children the age of 0-6 get to ride the cable car free of cost. The neighborhood has a drinking water network but no sewage network. There is no health centers and health posts in the village, but there are many nearby in the Ordu city center. There is also access to electricity and a landline in the neighborhood. TransportationThere are several different alternatives to reach Boztepe. One of which is the gondola mentioned before which offers a view of the Black Sea and city of Ordu during the ride. Another way to reach Boztepe is by the two routes that go along the side of the hill. Numerous cars, buses, and shuttles use these pathways, but people also walk up it to get to the city. One route starts near the Tasbasi church and is the most direct route to the top with a steep road and many curves. The other route starts near the Ordu city center and takes a little longer as the road is less steep. AccommodationsRestaurantsAlong with the view, there are also many restaurants to visit that provide a great insight on Turkish cuisine. One of the popular restaurants found in Boztepe is Tepe. Tepe offers a variety of food from Turkish traditional breakfasts to their authentic desserts. Another notable location is the ice cream vendors. Turkey is known for their 'stretchy ice cream' also called Maraş dondurması. The vendors are notorious for teasing their customers by serving the ice cream cone on a stick, and then taking away the dondurma with the stick by rotating it around, before finally giving it to the customer. This sometimes results in funny misunderstandings among customers unfamiliar with the practice. HotelsThere are a couple of hotels to stay at where you can have a view of the Black Sea and be immersed in the Turkish culture. One being a 5 star hotel, Radisson Blu which is notable for its great service and food and highly enjoyed by tourists. The other hotel is Akamoy Boztep Otel, which is well known for its beautiful gardens and delicious food. ActivitiesWhile being on the highest elevated land in Ordu, there are many enjoyable activities to participate in. Paragliding is a particularly famous activity in Boztepe where people can look at the Black Sea and city of Ordu as they descend 550 m (1,800 ft).
