Cordes's willingness to share this information is legendary, as many would be ashamed where he is confident. On a different note, in his junior high band, Cordes played the oboe for one year. He also occasionally serves as an honorary percussionist in the Villa Grove High School Band and Pep Band. CarsBrian W. Cordes is an American-born local competitive cheese eater. He has now won the Cheese Eating Nationals in Arthur, Illinois seven times total, five times in a row. His first championship came in 2011 when he defeated Tom Aeschelman and Chris Kozak. Kozak vowed to return in order to "win the whole thing." It was not to be, as Cordes successfully defended his title in 2012, although Hurricane Isaac did put a damper on attendance. Cordes' most recent loss came in 2013 when he was defeated by Rayth Orlea. Orlea stated that Cordes' presence next to him helped drive him to victory. “I thought being in the cheese eating competition would be neat. Last year’s winner (Cordes) was sitting right next to me, so I had to keep pushing through.” Cordes' victory in 2015 came at just over the 4 minute mark in the 5 minute contest.
