CareerNelson was born in 1984 in Great Falls, Montana. She is an artist based in Richmond, Virginia, where she is an Assistant Professor of Photography at the University of Richmond. She has lectured at the Rhode Island School of Design[1], Parsons The New School[2], Cranbrook Academy of Art, SUNY New Paltz, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design[3]. Nelson's work focuses on 19th century photographic chemistry techniques to address themes of feminist science fiction, abstraction, and chemical reactions. She received her MFA in photography from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and her Bachelor of Arts from Montana State University. Nelson is the recipient of a 2015 Creative Capital Grant in Visual Arts[4] and a Theo Westenberger Foundation Grant for advancing women in the arts.
