Brooke Pierson (born April 30th, 1987) is an American composer and educator, primarily writing music for wind instruments.

Biography

Brooke Pierson was born in Toledo, Ohio and grew up in Howell, Michigan where he attended Howell High School. He grew up in a musical household where he experimented with improvisation on the piano from an early age. Mostly self taught, Pierson briefly took piano lessons before joining the middle school band; playing the trombone and eventually tuba. In high school he performed with the marching band, jazz band, concert band, musical theater, and several school choirs. Early in his high school career he began experimenting with Finale notation software writing some short pieces for concert band and several longer orchestra works. Without formal study, Pierson mostly used improvisational elements to create music as well as transcribe wind parts for musical theater. He graduated from Michigan State University in 2009 with a degree in Music Education and briefly worked as the band director at Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan before accepting his current position as fine arts chair, and instrumental music and composition teacher for the Washtenaw International High School and Middle Academy located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. From 2007 to 2015 he also worked as choir director and organist at Grace Lutheran Church in his home town of Howell. In 2018 he was selected as one of several winners of the [https://dallaswinds.org/fanfares/ Dallas Winds annual fanfare competition][1] for his piece [https://www.brookepierson.com/rise-up-brasspercussion-fanfare.html "Rise Up"].

Pierson has lived around the Ypsilanti, Michigan area since 2011 with his wife, Holly.
